We have worked hard to create an eyewear collection that not only reduces the environmental impact usually associated with the manufacturing of eyewear, but is also (in our eyes) aesthetically awesome! As you will see when browsing our collection, stunning designs, fashionable colors and high quality finishes are all as achievable with our eco-friendly materials as they are with regular eyewear materials.
All Green Eyes Eyewear products are made from one of these three durable, eco-friendly materials:
Using a renewable resource like bamboo allows this material to be used to its fullest extent; this reduces landfill waste and eliminates forest destruction associated with obtaining other timber materials. This is because when bamboo is harvested from the matured plant, the harvesting enables the plant to achieve new growth for reuse. This means that every 5 to 7 years, the same bamboo stalk can be harvested once it has regrown.
Biodegradable plastics take far less time to break down than conventional plastics, meaning that if they are discarded rather than recycled, they break down much quicker and reduce levels of landfill waste. Of course you can recycle this material too; it breaks down quicker so it can be recycled using less energy and reused more efficiently! Better still, this plastic requires less than half the energy to produce than its non-biodegradable counterparts. This material is also non-toxic and made from biomass, a completely renewable resource.
hand-made acetate, using lower emission equipment
We reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing using this material, therefore decreasing our carbon footprint and contributing to environmental sustainability. Cutting this material by hand ensures we avoid the use of pre-set routing and heat-forming/embedding machines, commonplace in the manufacturing of regular eyewear. Whilst providing all the benefits (such as durability, hypoallergenic qualities and visual appeal) of high-quality cellulose acetate, which is used when producing conventional premium eyewear, this material goes one step further by ensuring our production practices have a significantly lower impact on our planet.
